Win prizes and see the world!

Frederick from BeatBushBlog draws our attention to this contest:

George Orwell Bush contest — CASH PRIZES!
In George Orwell’s 1984, the three fundamental tenets emblazoned on Oceania’s Ministry of Truth were:

  • War is Peace.
  • Freedom is Slavery.
  • Ignorance is Strength.

As thousands have noted, these principles guide the Bush administration. I’ve been looking for the best statements of these principles by Bush or other high-ranking members of his administration. Bush actually said the first one: […]

  • Check out Frederick’s blog for the details, and make the world a better place. Also, cash prizes.

Stick a fork in David because he is done

Have you ever wondered what a column written by a man of limited talents who has completely run out of ideas would look like? Wonder no more.

Thanks to Blair for the link and offering his own comment on the column:

    Frighteningly dumb, disgustingly unfunny.

And our parents said we wouldn’t amount to anything!

Jerry : The New York Yankees?!
George : The New York Yankees!
Jerry : Ruth, Gehrig, DiMaggio, Mantle … Costanza?
George : I’m the assistant to the travelling secretary. I’m going on the road trips with them! I’ll be on the plane… I’m working in Yankee Stadium! This is a dream, I’m busting, Jerry, I’m busting!
    Jerry : I can’t believe it.
George : And I’ moving out of my parents’ house, I’m taking that apartment on 86th street, remember the one we saw?
    Jerry : That’s a great place!
George : I’m back in business, baby!

In light of our earlier post, just call us George.

So do we all agree that we don’t miss Barbara?

Barbara Olson, Ann Coulter’s former number one fan, continues to spin thanks to Human Events Online. In Final Days, Barbara tells us about:

At long last, what the media wouldn’t tell you about…BILL AND HILLARY’S 11TH-HOUR CRIME SPREE.

Shocking, just shocking! What did the Clintons do? The list is long and includes such whoppers as:

The four thousand pages of federal rules signed into law during the Clinton administration’s final days, including this chilling new definition of a baby: a “fetus, after delivery, that has been determined to be viable.” [Emphasis added.]

Always the curious ones, we decided to take a look at the Federal Register (Vol. 66, No. 11, Wednesday, January 17, 2001 , p. 6. PDF link.) What we found was this:

? 46.205 Research involving fetuses after delivery […]

    (d) Viable fetuses. A fetus, after delivery, that has that has been determined to be viable is a child as defined by ? 46.402(a) and may be included in research only to the extent permitted by and in accord with the requirements of subparts A and D of this part.

Not exactly a rewriting of the definition of a “baby,” to the extent that the regulation doesn’t, if you’ll allow us to get all technical on you, contain the word “baby.” Then again, unlike Barbara (or Ann or even Star Jones,) we are not lawyers. (You can read ? 46.402 here.)

    Unsubscribe information for dummies conservatives

Among our favorite emails here at S,N! are those we get from Human Events Online. Every single one of those precious messages includes the following note at the bottom:

    UNSUBSCRIBE:

To unsubscribe from this list, simply send an e-mail here and include the word “subscribe” in the subject or first five (5) lines of the message body, and we will promptly remove you. [Emphasis added.]

    Right (wink wink.)

Gee, we wonder what the answer to that question is

    Andrew Sullivan asks:

Doesn’t the president at some point have to stop saying what is the opposite of the recorded truth?

    Uh… Sadly, No!?

You may remember him from such instructional videos as…

Thanks to Scott for sending us this Florida voting machine video.

One of the questions included in the video reminded us of our favorite suggested question for the 1995 Quebec referendum on sovereignty, made by Pierre Drouilly:

“Are you not in disagreement with not denying to Quebec the right not to remain a non-sovereign state economically linked to the rest of Canada?” Yes or No.*

    * N’?tes-vous pas en d?saccord de ne pas nier au Qu?bec le droit de ne pas demeurer un ?tat non-souverain associ? ?conomiquement avec le reste du Canada?

    Corrupting minds since 1969!

Yesterday, in case you missed it, we had to take a day off from our current job (teaching business English) to fly to Hamburg for a job interview. At the start of our class today we asked the students what they had done the day before. The first answer we got?

We did a lot of preposition related program activities.

We don’t just hate America at Sadly, No! International — we teach the world to hate America.

    Say uncle!

The world’s leading expert on stinky meat shares this exciting (or something) story from Nevada:

Employees of a private voter registration company allege that hundreds, perhaps thousands of voters who may think they are registered will be rudely surprised on election day. The company claims hundreds of registration forms were thrown in the trash.

Anyone who has recently registered or re-registered to vote outside a mall or grocery store or even government building may be affected…

    More over here.

    Now that’s a review!

From the “member book reviews” of Celsius 41.11 (the temperature at which the movie of the same name was made:)

Have not seen the DVD yet [sic,] but can comment on Haliburton. According to my information Haliburton is one of two Companies in the World that can rebuild a country. One is Haliburton mostly using American labor or American Contractors. Dick Chaney did work for them as a consultant expert on how to aquire Government Contracts. I would think their Contract with Mr. Chaney would be something very similar to a backer of a major Hollywood Movie. The better the movie is, the more money it makes, the longer it runs, the more money the Backer makes even well after he put up the money. How does this differ with a Contract Dick Chaney might have with Haliburton???

Oh, that Dick Chaney guy was just a consultant. If by consultant, you mean CEO. As for the movie part, we’re really not sure where that came from.
