Boorwellian

Deconstructing Max Boot’s latest bad-Orwellian (war criminals are the real peacemakers, while pacifists actually enable wars) polemic made me think of another hater-of-pacifists, Christopher Hitchens, whose perhaps most annoying conceit is that he thinks he’s always on the good side of George Orwell.

In actual fact, he’s not. Zizka’s classic takedown of the late Michael Kelly equally applies to Hitchens, Instayokel, Boot.. all the wingnuts who argue that peaceniks are the scum of the earth but warmongers are angels among us.

War Jonesin’ (Updated)

Max Boot discourses on what’s really funny about peace, love and understanding: it sucks! Which means that the people who champion it suck too! But then Boot’s theme has always been that the zenith of moral endeavor is the art of warmongering. So it’s just “logical” that he’d argue that the nadir of all possible moral positions is that of the peacemaker.

Max Boot has put on his thinking cap

A Frickin’ GOLDMINE of Insanity

I’m too tired to review this Guy Adams piece tonight, but I’ll provide you with a teaser to hold you over until I stop being lazy:

Islam is a force for evil that opposes all who do not embrace it. Much like the homosexual agenda, all who oppose Islam must be silenced by whatever means. That is at the heart of Islam — convert to the worship of Allah or else slay all those who reject Islam.

I think Guy’s upset because the gays have been actively trying to convert him- what do the rest of you think?

Bonus laughs:

So if a Muslim says to you that he has peaceful intentions toward you, a non-Muslim, then you must ask him, “Are you really a true Muslim(?), because the Qur’an clearly states that you are commanded to kill me.”

At which point the Muslim guy slowly backs away and calls the police.

Now THAT’S a Novel Idea!

The comments to this thread have gotten positively insane. Patterico’s there, but you’ve also got Deb Frisch and some guy who signs off all his posts by writing:

The OJ Simpson Case

To throw even more gas on the fire, Ginger Yellow writes:

Hey Brad/Gavin/Retardo, what say you update the thread with something about Prussian Blue so the neo-Nazis can join in the fun.

That is a truly excellent idea.

Hey, NAZIS!!! Yeah, I’m talking to YOU, YOU GODDAMN NAZI BASTARD… uh… NAZIS!!!! PRUSSIAN BLUE SUCKS!!! YEAH, YOU HEARD ME! FRICKIN’…NAZIS!!!!!

Well This’ll Do a Lotta Good

Sorry, Senator Clinton, but you are urinating into the wind here:

Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton called Thursday for the resignation of Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld, hours after excoriating him at a public hearing over what she said was a “failed policy” in Iraq.

“I just don’t understand why we can’t get new leadership that would give us a fighting chance to turn the situation around before it’s too late,” the New York Democrat told the Associated Press. “I think the president should choose to accept Secretary Rumsfeld’s resignation.”

As does every other sane person, not to mention a few insane people like Bill Kristol.

I don’t think Bush keeps Rummy on board because he thinks Rummy’s doing a heckuva job — not even Bush could possibly be that delusional. No, the only semi-sensible explanation for why Bush hasn’t fired Rummy yet is because letting Rummy keep his job is the ultimate “BWAH-HA-HA!!” response to all his critics. In other words, the administration’s policies are based completely on spite: If Euro-sissies, Arabs and lib’ruls oppose people like Rummy and Bolton being given significant power on the international stage, then that’s reason enough to keep ’em on the payroll.

Gavin adds: See here for a brilliant piece on Spite Voters.

Feh!

It’s too bad Glenn Reynolds is on vacation. I’d really love to hear him spin this:

The head of U.S. Central Command, Gen. John Abizaid, acknowledged Thursday that Iraq could descend into civil war.

“I believe that the sectarian violence is probably as bad as I’ve seen it, in Baghdad in particular. And that if not stopped, it is possible that Iraq could move toward civil war,” he testified before the Senate Armed Services Committee.

“Failure to apply coordinated regional and international pressure … will further extremism” and could lead to a widening and more perilous conflict, he said.

And if that’s not enough for you, here’s a sample of this week’s Iraq headlines from the far-left FOX News website:

Shiite Iraqis to Rally in Support of Hezbollah

Blasts at Baghdad Soccer Fields Leave 14 Dead

Army Restricts Media Access to Iraqi Witnesses in GI Murder-Rape Trial

Shiites Kill More Than 41 in Sunni Ambush

Iraqi Intelligence Officer Gunned Down

Miltant Leader Captured in Iraq; 17 Killed in Mosque Blasts

Report: Japan Begins Withdrawing Troops From Iraq

Car Bomb Near Iraqi Shiite Shrine Kills 12

As the Ole Perfesser said a mere two months ago, “That must mean that we’re winning.”

You Can’t Be Serious

So I have this new theory: there is no person named “Patterico.” Instead, I think “Patterico” is a blogging robot who is under the command of various gnomes and/or leprechauns who are constantly fighting to be in control of pulling his levers and dictating what he gets to say. How else to explain the bizarre cognitive dissonance between this statement:

Anyway, Doug, not only do I try to initiate reasoned debate, I also will tone it down and *initiate* the process of civility.

And this one:

The real issue, Jeff G, is whether a douche like Greenwald helps a pussy like Retardo stay fresh.

You can picture the gnomes and leprechauns duking it out right now, can’t you?

“We have to put up a front of faux civility! Otherwise, we won’t be taken seriously as a Civilized Pundit!”

“Ach, laddy, call ‘im a pussy and a douche! Y’know he deserves it! I’s not like it’ll stop us from gettin’ hired by FOX News or nothin’!”

Now, I have called people nasty names in the past- “raging ass-fuck monster twat” is my personal favorite. However, I do at least understand and recognize that my status as a foul-mouthed cretin renders me completely unfit to lecture others about the virtues of civility. I would like to think that anyone who gleefully calls someone else a “douche” and “pussy” would at least own up to what they are, instead of bringing out the tired schtick of, “My poo doth not stinketh but thine poo dost! Saying that thou didst touch some guy’s sister in her secret places lots is harmless grade school humour! But if thou callest someone a “wanker,” then thou art the vilest knave e’er to debauch o’er the land! I am rubber, thou art glue, thy foolish scamp! W00teth!”

You would think they’d refrain from pulling that routine, anyway. But then again, most of us aren’t being controlled by psychotic gnomes and leprechauns, so I guess we should be a little more sympathetic.

Gavin adds: Oh cripes, is he still at it down in that thread? We might have to… You know, with the thing and the radioactive lava and the hurting, and all that.

Bradrocket adds: Of course he’s still at it. Those gnomes and leprechauns take shifts. So when Paddy McLuckycharms gets tired of pushing the buttons, Gan’dar the Garden Gnome punches his time card in, puts on his hard helmet and picks up the slack.

Gavin adds: You know what’s a cool thing? Lexis-Nexis. It’s like Google except there’s all different stuff on it. Oh wait, hang on a bit; I need to finish this level in Diablo II. Man, there’s so much time to fill during the day… Say, did Tad “TBogg” Boggington leave that twenty bucks in the mailbox like he said?

“Mr. Montalban” adds: Federalist Papers, Schmederalist Papers! Remember that Pattycake’s mentor, Pastycake, thinks anonymity/pseudonymity is worse than plagiarism. So Patty’s latest is all of a wingnutty piece.

Bradrocket adds an exciting update: Patterico writes:

You failed to quote this part from the first comment:

“I’m trying to tone it down with you, too, and give you a chance to enter a civil dialogue. How this effort is met is up to you.

“But some people don’t deserve that notably Retardo. He hides behind a pseudonym and takes dishonest potshots at the courage of people with the guts to use their real names, like Jeff Goldstein. That’s how you know Retardo is a putz who earns no civility.”

No cognitive dissonance.

Sweet. I was waiting for you to bring this up.

That Old-Time Rock ‘n’ Roll

Via Billmon I see that some folks high up in the Israeli government are progamming the geopolitical jukebox to play a real oldie-but-not-so-goodie:

A line being bandied about in Israeli security circles is that the purpose of the bombing is to show Hezbollah that “the boss man has gone berserk.” What kind of goal is that?

Wall Street Journal columnist Bret Stephens
August 1, 2006

You might remember the song: it’s Richard Nixon’s Greatest Hit, and what an aural atrocity it is. Some drunken fucktard always plays it or thinks about playing it; and it’s at that time that last call can’t come soon enough.

GET BACK, LORETTA!!!
