They don’t call him the father of the conservative movement for nothing!

Conservatives, upset about Ron Reagan’s Jr. lack of adoration for George Bush, have unleashed what Robert Novak calls a public flogging. At Outside the Tent, clifburns deals with some of the responses to Reagan Jr. offered by William “Punch you in the goddam mouth” Buckley. Surprisingly he leaves out this “counterpoint” offered by Bill:

RR Jr.: Having three cats while being childless ”is like having children.”
Buckley: ”No, it’s not like having children.”

Zing! (Sadly for Buckley, that’s the best counterpoint of the lot.)

We can’t help it that we’re co-dependent with conservatives!

Having updated his Uganada/condemn post, the internet’s favorite illiterate virgin posts our email bemoaning the correction:

re: Uganda Gets It Right on AIDS

From a C-Log reader:

We can’t help but regret that your post no longer reads Uganada and condemn — that was comedy gold.

Cheers,

S,N!

I can’t help it that I am co-dependent with my spell checker!

Say hello

Sadly, No! reader Scott Lemieux started blogging at Lawyers, Guns and Money last May. Although we were not notified of this important development, we say hello and invite you to stop by. If only because like us, Scott needs all the emotional support he can get as the Expos face the seemingly inevitable prospect of being moved out of Montreal.

Edit: We should have noted, but forgot to do so, that Scott is blogging in company of DJW and Robert Farley (who, one of them pointed out in the comments, have their own baseball difficulties.)

[Fixed an innocent little typo.]

Do those things come in different flavors?

Why is it that Clog (the blog of TownHall) is staffed exclusively by (illiterate) virgins?:

Uganada is the only success story on the continent of Africa–and it is the only area that promotes the ABC model (Abstinence first, then be faithful to your spouse, and if you choose to give in to your lust and act like an animal in heat, then use a condemn).

Now if you excuse us, our wife will be home soon and we plan on giving in to our lust and acting like an animal in heat. Don’t worry though — we’ll use a condone.

Edit: Looks like one of you traitorous bastards told them about the mistakes since they have been fixed.

Should I stay or should I go?

Your help is kindly requested to make sense of the following:

July 2, 2004: WARSAW (Reuters) – Artillery shells found by Polish troops in Iraq definitely contained the deadly nerve agent cyclosarin, the Polish army said on Friday. […] Poland said its soldiers found 17 Grad rockets and two mortar shells in late June and said U.S. experts had carried out tests on the weapons.

July 3, 2004: Sixteen rocket warheads found last week in south-central Iraq by Polish troops did not contain deadly chemicals, a coalition spokesman said yesterday[.]

July 5, 2004: Political and military officials in Poland Saturday reaffirmed that missile warheads found by Polish troops in Iraq contained poison gas, despite denials by the multinational forces in Baghdad.

Michael Ledeen, July 7, 2004: So when, say, Polish soldiers find some [WMD,] “coalition authorities” are quick to say, nah, that doesn’t count, that’s older stuff. As if old WMDs weren’t real.

To answer Michael: if they’re deteriorated to the point of no longer functioning, we’re going to have to call these as not real, sorry:

Yesterday’s coalition release also said that two other 122-milimeter rounds, found by the Poles on June 16 with help from an Iraqi informer, tested positive for small quantities of sarin but were “so deteriorated” that they would have had “limited to no impact if used by insurgents against coalition forces.”

Mr. Ledeen finally asks:

If you don’t believe that, you will have to explain how every major intelligence service in the world agreed there were WMDs. Do you think Ahmad Chalabi duped the Israelis? The Russians? The French?

Over at Atrios, reader sheldonlanghorne offers this:

If you believe Santa Claus doesn’t exist, how do you explain the fact that children in other countries believe in him?

Discuss.

Kerry, these nice men in the white coats are here to help you

We believe that Kerry “Vial” L. Marsala has left the world we like to call earth and entered a universe of her own. In her Sunday column, Kerry asks: Just What Does Edwards Do for Kerry?

How much can you read without having to ask your close ones that they commit you to a mental institute?

The only possible nominees that could have really impacted Sen. Kerry’s pick for Vice President would have been either Sen. Hillary Clinton or Governor Bill Richardson.

Well, that’s not so bad you say. Is it about to get much worse you wonder? Sadly, Yes!

Sen. Hillary Clinton of New York would have stirred the communistic followers of ‘everything for the common good’ doctrine. The feminist voters and those of the sympathetic, ‘stand by your man’ even when he cheats repeatedly

And so begins the slow descent into madness.

Kerry and Clinton may have the same dictatorship dreams of ruling America, but Hillary has a mind that is brilliant, though skewed in ideology, and Kerry just has a sad hush puppy face and view of our country.

Does this mean that Kerry [John] has a sad hush puppy face view of America? If so, please explain.

So what does Sen. John Edwards bring to the plate of Kerry’s unpalatable French cuisine? Is it a touch of good ol’ Southern boy? Is it the southern charm of a raucous naughty little boy? Charm worked for Slick Willie…so Kerry’s betting Sen. Edwards will charm the thongs

Unpalatable French cuisine? A second out of place mention of Clinton? This may be even worse than we’d feared. And now Kerry turns electoral analyst:

For some reason, demographically speaking, the Hispanic population has become overwhelmingly important to both sides.

For some reason, demographically speaking, Kerry has become a target of much ridicule on the internet.

Will Sen. John Edwards be a good mix to help stave off Kerry’s depressing over all looks and outlook of our country?

Gee Kerry, what do you think?

  • Kerry leads Bush in new poll
  • Domestic issues lift Kerry in new poll
  • Senator Kerry now leads President Bush in the Rasmussen Reports Presidential Tracking Poll, 48% to 45%

the Democrats are going to strategically do battle anyway they can to win back the White House, even if it means having U.N. President Kofi Annan preside as judge over our sovereign nation’s most sacred right; voting for our President.

We can’t add anything to that. Honestly.

Edit: World O’Crap takes a look at Miss Marsala and Miss Pawlik here.

  • Resistance… is futile!

From the department of I’m going to find myself some good news wherever I can, Andrew Sullivan writes:

THE RESISTANCE (CTD.): Thanks, Lynne. The vice-president’s wife is sticking, mercifully, to federalist principle and opposes the religious right amendment to the Constitution. But I think it’s incorrect to say that she necessarily differs from her husband. Dick Cheney has never said he disavows his belief that marriage should remain a matter for the states. He has merely said he’ll abide by George Bush’s decision to prevent any state from enacting marriages, civil unions or domestic partnerships for gay citizens through a federal amendment. [Emphasis added]

Dick merely said he’d roll over and play dead as his administration pushes to amend the constitution so that homosexuals are barred from “full citizenship for ever.” What a guy.

    Andrew continues:

Mrs Cheney, of course, has a lesbian daughter and so it is hard for her to see gay people as some sort of “threat” to the family.

Unless you know something about the Cheney family we don’t Andrew, shouldn’t this apply to Dick as well?

The Master of Shorters strikes again

The inimitable Elton at Busy, Busy, Busy sums up the latest Washington Post editorial.

Careful there, you’re going to give yourself an aneurysm

Looks like someone forgot to yell out Serenity now! Various bloggers on the right are… getting upset, over this John Kerry interview on CNN:

KING: News of the day, Tom Ridge warned today about al Qaeda plans of a large-scale attack on the United States. Didn’t increase the — you see any politics in this? What’s your reaction?

KERRY: Well, I haven’t been briefed yet, Larry. They have offered to brief me. I just haven’t had time. [Emphasis added]

    mhking is outraged:

No time to find out about any threats to the nation, but time to strut his stuff on stage?

    Jay G offers this:

Kiss my hairy Italian ass, you rat-faced gigolo bastard.

Kerry’s comments are obviously outrageous, seeing as how he missed a chance to be briefed on this latest threat to the nation:

Afterward, Senator Bill Frist, Republican of Tennessee, the majority leader, said he had heard no startling information in the closed session. “The essence of the briefing is that during this period of elections, this campaign season, that there is increased risk of a terrorist attack in the United States of America,” Frist said. “The nature of that risk is very nonspecific.”

So you can see why one should be upset. Especially when, a few seconds later, Kerry added:

KING: When do you — when do you get your briefing?

KERRY: We’re arranging it. It’s at the end of the week I’ll get it.

    KING: Should be pretty soon.

KERRY: I think it’s tomorrow or the next day.

    German… humor?

We’ve been busy this weekend so all we had time to read was the flyer for Kaufland, where we found this joke of the week:

A woman is trying to do a puzzle, but manages little progress. Frustrated she calls her boyfriend for help. “Is there a picture on the box?” he asks. “A rooster” she answers. “Very well then — I’ll stop by tonight and we can do it together.”

As the boyfriend arrives at her apartment that evening he takes a look at the puzzle pieces spread out on the table, and the rooster picture. “I’ll tell you what,” he says, “we’re going to put the Corn Flakes back in the box and never speak of this again.”

Vielen Dank meine Damen und Herren! Wir werden die ganze Woche hier sein!
