A few days ago I asked the question, “Who out there is wingnutty enough to defend Pat Robertson’s call for the assassination of Hugo Chavez?” At the time, only the predictably crazy Pastor Swank seemed up to the challenge. But over the last two days, WorldNetDaily has published not one, but TWO columns praising the deranged minister’s bloodthirsty rants! Let’s review them both, starting with this fine contribution from the Sultan of ‘Stache himself, Joseph Farah!

First, the good news: The style switcher (on the right) which for months sat there promising some old school dark on light action, yet delivered nothing, now delivers… something. It won’t help for extended entries, and it won’t help for comments. For the rest though, it rocks!
We’re trying to make it work at least for extended entries — if anyone can help, please get in touch. (We’re using this guy’s script to change the style sheet.)

Instahonky links to this ABC News story called “PR Machine Behind Cindy Sheehan?” He adds, “I bet that if a GOP group were to send servicemen’s families to picket Democrats it would be getting more play. And more negative play.”
Ah, but Glenn, GOP groups already did them one better by recruiting actual former servicemen! Do you remember a little 527 called The Swift Boat Veterans for the Truth?
A group funded by the biggest Republican campaign donor in Texas began running an attack ad Aug. 5 in which former Swift Boat veterans claim Kerry lied to get one of his two decorations for bravery and two of his three purple hearts.

Not very many people have made the connection, but I believe that Legal Abortion in America is at least partially to blame for the human flood of Illegal Immigration streaming daily across our borders.
Y’know, there’s a good reason nobody’s made that connection before. Indeed, it’s the same reason that the Brookings Institution rejected my groundbreaking study on how the late-’90s East Asian financial crisis was sparked when Thailand decided to peg their currency to the domestic price of Meow Mix (I called it “The Cat in the Baht, or: ‘I Want Chicken, I Want Liver, Thailand’s Banks are in the Shitter.'”). In other words, no one has thought of it before because it’s really, really stupid.

At NRO Donald Luskin bats cleanup and hits a grand slam in nailing Paul Krugman’s outrageous Florida lie and his lame effort to cover his tracks: “It the truth that counts.” Luskin does not note Krugman’s misstatements about the Ohio counties that John exposed in “Krugmania,” or that Krugman made no attempt to resuscitate his lies about the 2004 race in his follow-up column on Monday.

It’s a beautiful New Jersey night, with temps in the high 60s and cicadas thrumming their August tattoo. And of course you open the windows, and you leave the screen door open a crack so that the cats can circulate in and out. And that’s when they get you.
There are these here:
The Skunk Family, who live in the little hole by the tree.
Mr. Groundhog, who was kicked out of the hole by the skunks about a month ago, and who knows where he lives now? except he still hangs out by the hole all the time.
Deer.
Two mallard ducks who come waddling up the street quacking for biscuits.
Possums: barely worth mentioning because they forget who you are from one day to the next.
Big-ass, giant raccoon the size of a small bear, who’s named Popeye the Sailor Man, because he’s always in the garbage can.
That weird gray cat who peers through the window.
Now, I hear this whuffling noise, and I turn around like, “Okay, who’s whuffling?” And it’s a totally different pair of raccoons, standing in the middle of the kitchen floor.
Just standing there like this:
And I’m like, “Look, could you just…?” And they turn around ruefully and pad out the door. As I go to close the door behind them, I see the two adult skunks lined up directly outside, looking up with pointy noses. One of my cats is sitting watching all of this like it’s nothing unusual.
So I’m wondering now, not unseriously: On the nights when one goes to bed leaving the screen door open, does the entire local wildlife population come inside? Take naps on the couch? have midnight tea parties? play poker with the cats? Maybe it was totally Poker Night tonight, and I accidentally ruined it for everyone.

Note: A solution to the ‘light posting’ problem we seem to have, with Brad’s classes starting soon, is that I simply post worse and dumber stuff for awhile. If Instapundit, et al., are any examples, that might even result in increased traffic and standing. (Heh. An interesting question.)

When you see an op-ed column titled, ‘What the Democrats Should Be Saying,’ you can bet it’s one of two things:
1) A poison pill by a Republican
2) An ‘appeal to sanity’ calling for the Democrats to become more like Republicans

Because they lack coherent plans for how to govern the country, the Democrats have become captive of the most shrill voices in the party, who seem motivated these days mainly by visceral dislike of George W. Bush. Sorry, folks, but loathing is not a strategy — especially when much of the country finds the object of your loathing a likable guy.
But we can do this too!
