Andrew, please tell us you were joking

The one sentence that (we predict) will make SullyWatch‘s brain (to say nothing of Jo Fish‘s) explode:

…and I think it’s highly unhelpful to conflate criticism of this president with hatred.

Hmm, delicious lead…

Who could have known that when Dick Cheney told us that if we didn’t vote for him in November he was just following the lead of Pierre Legrand of Baton Rouge, Louisiana:

Our Lives Depend on Your Re-election
Pierre Legrand – Baton Rouge, La.

President Bush is a man of honor and its easy to see why some believe he was destined to be here in our countries greatest hour of danger. Never in our history have we faced the danger we face now; never in our history has an enemy plainly desired to kill us in our cities murdering for the sheer bloody joy of seeing our misery. We will need President Bush’s steadiness in the coming war. This war is unique not only in the desire of the enemy to murder us in vast numbers but also unique in that the public only hears whispers of the enemy before thousands of us die. Unlike any war in the past our enemy hides, forcing the president to remind many of us constantly of our mortal danger. How easy would it be for a feckless, easily swayed president to declare the war won?

We’d add some comments except that the whole thing is pretty much sarcasm proof. Besides, Pierre is one of Sadly, No!’s biggest fans:

Sadly, No! takes to task the new documentary by Vietnam Vets called Stolen Honor and sadly simply demonstrates that lead poisoning does indeed affect ones ability to comprehend. Put down the lead chips and step away from the keyboard.

You have a choice either English is your second language or your reading abilities don’t match your ability to spread manure. Which is it?

Well, column A is correct but as for B,* Pierre, we’d suggest taking a look in the old miroir. The Swift Boat’s claim, that Kerry testified before the Senate that he had witnessed (or committed) atrocities is, in fact, incorrect.

* That comma was for you,** John!

** That second one too.

Take your banner and shove it!

Bring it on:

WASHINGTON – The Democratic Party questions President Bush’s credibility on Iraq and the economy in a new campaign ad that shows the Republican on an aircraft carrier declaring an end to major combat under a “Mission Accomplished” banner.

“How can you solve problems when you won’t even admit they’re there?” the ad asks.

How to survive a hurricane without really trying

Passing this along:

Just stay really drunk at all times. Thats how i was in New orleans. I went for Mardi Gras and the whole week is just a blur. i bet the hurricane wouldn’t seem so bad if you were fucked up.

Uh, where did you people come from anyway?

Somehow our first announcements for gmail invites only generated a few emails. Yesterday’s resulted in over 30 emails to our inbox, leading many around here to wonder just what happened to this little business of ours. 30?!? Something funny is going on. And the sad result is that even though we got more invitations from Google today we just can’t meed the demand.

Because all the requests we received were from long time reader (imagine that,) we decided to award the invites on a first-come first-served basis. (With an exception made for the couple who included this in their email:

I was just trying to find a gmail account today! This puts you ahead of Pete in my book!

Woof!

So if anyone else out there has a gmail invite to share with a fellow S,N! reader, don’t hesitate to get in touch with us. Otherwise, well, that’s a shame.

Update: Thanks to the very generous Katie of katieweb six more lucky people will get their wish. (She also has an interesting post on the suit against Unocal🙂

In January, 2004 the PBS show NOW with Bill Moyers covered the story of a lawsuit filed against the company Unocal for atrocities committed on its behalf during the building of a natural gas pipeline in Burma.

The Center for Constitutional Rights reports that the lawsuit against Unocal will proceed allowing for a jury trial. The case has withstood several legal challenges to allow the plaintiffs, Burmese villagers, to finally have a chance at justice.

Update 2: More happy customers thanks to Gail. (Though not everyone is happy if the comments to this post are any indication.)

So does everyone have one now?

We’re still trying to give away some newly received gmail invitations. Email us with your request: gmail @ sadlyno.com.

CBS, meet a can of whoop ass

Brought to you by Rep. Chris Cox, R-Calif:

Rep. Chris Cox, R-Calif., sought an investigation.

“Despite the growing abundance of evidence that CBS News has aided and abetted fraud, the network has declined to reveal the source of the disputed documents,” Cox wrote to the chairman of the House Energy Committee’s subcommittee on telecommunications and the Internet.

The letter asks Rep. Fred Upton (news, bio, voting record), R-Mich., to “commence a subcommittee investigation into the continued use by CBS News of apparently forged documents concerning the service record of President George W. Bush intended to unfairly damage his reputation and influence the outcome of the 2004 presidential election.”

Because as we all know, if there’s one thing Bush has going for him it’s a stellar reputation for his service in the National Guard and his behavior in the 1970s:

At a press conference in Columbus, OH, NBC reporter David Bloom, pointing out that the current White House background check says, “Do not limit your response to the last 7 years. You must go back to your 18th birthday,” asked Bush if he had not used drugs since he was 18. Bush dodged the question, saying, “I have made mistakes in my life. I have learned from those mistakes.”

Well, they kind of look like they’re playing golf…

They certainly weren’t playing frolf. The Washington Post reports:

And in today’s final round on NBC’s Today show, host Matt Lauer and Kelley skirmished about whether Lauer had actually played golf with the former President Bush, as Kelley had said yesterday, and which Lauer then denied.

Lauer showed video that showed him carrying a golf club alongside the former president. But Lauer said he was serving more as a golfing prop for Bush than as a golfing partner — and complained that Kelley’s innuendo suggested otherwise.

Was Kelley talking about this?

President Bush did an interview with Matt Lauer for the TODAY Show on his FieldTurf putting green. President Bush loves his new putting green, so much so that he decided to challenge Matt Lauer in a putting contest. Check out the video to see who wins.

(Thanks to Blair for the WP link.)

PS: Why the fuck does Lauer care anyway?

It’s like a mix between Miranda and an old William Buckley-Noam Chomsky Debate

Jo Fish has the latest on how some members of the US Army are conducting operations in Iraq:

“You have the right to remain silent,” one soldier told an uncomprehending detainee in English. “Anything you say will result in a punch in the face.”

More here. And catch up on Adventures in the Green Zone here.

Some of my best friends are first rate morons

(You know it’s true too!)

Did you know that children are being taught the homosexual lifestyle in public schools? (Today children we’re going to learn about what Bill does with Bob when they want to experience a special moment of privacy.) If you’ve been reading Blessed Cause (as mandated by God,) then you do:

Simultaneous to the religion objections, I object to teaching impressionable children the lifestyle of homosexuals as an option. I have no problem with homosexuals, some of my best friends are homosexuals, but I vehemently oppose teaching it to IMPRESSIONABLE CHILDREN.

We should let homosexuals get married, have children, and then choose the homosexual option on their tax return (or wherever one must make their choice known.)

Oh we can opt out, but who wants their son in a high school gym shower with a bunch of boys being taught about the glory homosexuality? SHEESH.

While we have to admit that we didn’t attend high school in the US, we can say we’ve never heard of lectures (on any topic) being conducted in the gym shower. (Today we’re going to be discussing homosexuality, so please take off your clothes and meet me in the showers in a few minutes.) SHEESH!

You can teach TOLERANCE without inducing people into it!

Have you been induced into tolerance while in school? If so, please contact Jen Schroder immediately. You’d better hurry though:

Even though BlessedCause is linked by WorldNetDaily, GOPUSA, HistoryNewsNetwork, and SierraTimes, Google stats show that “SamSpade” appears as receiving the most traffic regarding us. SamSpade is a site used to find the personal address of web owners. So it appears I’m being hunted, and these people do not want to deliver flowers. Thanks for coming to this website while I’m still alive!

You see, poor Jenny is convinced Arabs want to kill her, a conclusion she reached thanks to her knowledge of Arabic. Consider her analysis posted here:

Following are excerpts from the site. I couldn’t recopy the Arabic lettering that had flames coming off of them, next to Osama. I don’t see the picture of Jesus or the effigy of John Walker Lindh at this site, (wince) and the picture of Jesus is still posted at the original Arab site, from which we are still getting many hits as well. I wonder if they’re having a hard time removing the picture of Jesus from their site, their sites don’t work the same as ours at all.

Does anyone know what the next page says? I’m a little concerned, there are a ton of “!!!!!” explanation points… somebody is emphatic about something…

It’s a good thing that Jenny has figured out that the secret al Qaeda code for “kill someone” is the use of “explanation points!!!” Even better is the fact that Jenny knows how to stay undercover:

Please forgive the many different spellings of my name, there are whole websites looking for me, there has been a lot of accusations and persecution and I have had to take a lot of precautions.

In order to maintain her privacy, Jenny was smart enough to register her web site under her real name, giving an address and phone number in Texas. Given that it’s a well known fact that al Qaeda doesn’t know how to use whois (having only recently discovered ping,) it’s safe to say that Jenny isn’t in grave danger. Yet. She is, furthermore, a really friendly and open person:

I have no problem with homosexuals or Muslims personally, I’ve had close friends and dated both.

So there you go:

Jerry: I mean I have many gay friends…
George: My father’s gay…

PS: While we stole Jenny from World O’Crap, she has taken our precious Justin.
