Well, I ran out of stuff to write about again, so I popped over to Renew America for a quick, easy wingnut fix. Let’s kick off the festivities with our old, old, old, old, old, old, old friend Carey Roberts.
As longtime readers know, Carey writes a lot about the evils of feminism. Actually, that’s all he writes about. Seriously, if Jesus and Buddha appeared above New York and challenged Godzilla and Satan to a tag-team steel cage death match, Roberts would react by accusing the leftist media of giving Buddha preferential treatment for possessing humungous, effeminate Buddha boobs.
With this in mind, you may wonder if there’s any subject that Carey Roberts can’t turn into a rambling tirade against radical feminism, no matter how obscure and unrelated it may seem. Carey answers this question in today’s column and, unsurprisingly, the answer is “Sadly, No!”

Ok, so I was supposed to do this thing for Slate last year on gothic rock, via Editor Meaghan O. (who’s a stone mensch, and beyond reproach for any political stuff published there). Didn’t end up finishing it, but got reacquainted with a bunch of bands like Skeletal Family, Black Tape for a Blue Girl, etc.
And sometimes you hit a song on the ear-pod playlist that’s just right for the moment.
Chameleons UK, ‘Up the Down Escalator.’ The mope-rock aesthetic makes you think they’re poof-haired ponces, but when you see the video, you see a normal bunch of brown-haired guys with guitars, and it all snaps into place. They’re northern, and a normal-style rock band for there, in the mid-’80s, as high-school Van Halen bands were normal in the US. Only they’re good, and got a single deal, then an album deal. They’re a good band, objectively. With good songs.
Their best, I think, is ‘Swamp Thing,’ but you get more of a proper rock feel with ‘Up the Down Escalator.’ They were reportedly pretty loud and snarling onstage, and a cult exists still, in the UK, that luvs-luvs-luvs them.
Otherwise, back to political bootfisting on the morrow. We’re all human, summat-like.

Yesterday, Ms. Internment USA posted a link to Cindy Sheehan’s divorce papers and wrote, “it will be interesting to see if Cindy Sheehan continues to insist that she and her husband ‘are on the same side of the fence’ with respect to her anti-war activism.”
It was a vile act by all accounts, as Michelle tried to score political points by speculating, without any evidence, about a connection between Ms. Sheehan’s personal life and her political activism. Bloggers from all over rightfully heaped scorn on Michelle, calling her “a disgrace on the highest level,” “goddamned disgraceful,” and “a deeply disgusting, unforgivable, and vile piece of shit.”
Now while I’m not normally in favor in cheap ad hominem attacks (you may remember I took a stand a while back against calling Michelle the c-word), I find all of the above quite unobjectionable under the circumstances.

August is a traditionally slow month for wingnuttery, as most of Washington is on vacation and there just isn’t that much to write about. Even the normally reliable Renew America has run out of gas, wasting its energy fuming about rogue jurors in the Jacko trial and sodomy-enabling coffee cups.
Well thankfully for us, The Rant has stepped up to the plate and cracked a pinch-hit homer with this column by Greg Lewis. Eschewing the avant-garde surrealist wingnuttery popularized by Kaye Grogan and Pastor Swank, Greg concocts an old-fashioned crackpot stew with a skillful blend of ignorance, crappy writing, and all-around stupidity. Take it away, Greg!
How Democrats Marginalize Their Constituencies

Democrats continue to claim to be the party of “the people,” but where the rubber meets the road, Democrats routinely fail to deliver. Among the “people” Democrats would claim to represent are, to give you one example, regular Americans, folks who grew up listening to the music of the Southern rock band Lynyrd Skynyrd and who understand that they are not the ignorant, racist rednecks the liberal media and Neil Young portray them to be.
So the reason Democrats can’t connect with regular folks is because they aren’t loudly condemning a Neil Young song that came out over 35 years ago. Makes sense to me.

Many years ago, we went to buy a doll for my son we put up a new email address for all of you to contact the management. Little did we know, for that is how new the internets are to us, that we had not, as we intended, set up a simple forwarding account. Instead, we inadvertently created a real POP mailbox.
In former times that would not have been a problem, as except for the occasional email from David Frum, Jonah Goldberg or Bruce Bartlett, few people have either a reason or a need to contact us. That, of course, was before Brad R. and Gavin M., the ambiguously heterosexual duo, joined this outfit. All of sudden, lots of you started writing in. While none of us actually knew we were being sent emails. So what follows is the best of the emails sent to S,N! over the last three months…
