You make me wanna shout…

Many conservatives have been complaining about this and that, Democrats, the media, all that jazz. In late October, Larry Kudlow wrote:

The economy actually appears to be speeding up, following the relatively sluggish performance of the prior 18 months. [Emphasis in the original.]

Jeff Poor did his part in “exposing and combating liberal media bias:”

NY Times Editorial Accuses Bush of Being in ‘Denial’ about U.S. Economy

The economy is about to dive off a cliff and it’s all President George W. Bush’s fault, according to The New York Times editorial board.

The “Reality Hammer” adds:

Thanks to the hysterical claims about the economy from people who want to see a Democrat win in 2008 a lot of home buyers are under the delusion that prices for homes will decline nationwide by up to 20% next year. […] So, not only are the doom and gloom prophets trying to sell you on the notion that we are in a recession when we are actually not, they want you to believe it is so bad it rivals the Great Depression!

A (typical) freeper contributed:

If a Republican is president, a recession occurs at the whim of the media.

Over at American Conservative Daily, there was this:

Just remember that the economy is constantly changing and is not static and that many of these bozos who claim to be economists have been predicting a recession for years. Eventually they will be right, but not because they know what they are doing. […] But I still don’t see the “recession” they claim is coming.

Which is why, of course, we are big fans of Rudy Giuliani’s new ad:

Voice Over: “With pundits and politicos handicapping the campaign like the Super Bowl, it’s easy to lose sight of what’s at stake. An economy in peril.” [Emphasis added.] video

Even the man who single-handedly saved New York from the army of terrorists is not immune to the pernicious effects of the Liberal Media(TM)!

Yeah, it’s just our imagination that we’re paying twice as much for gas as we were 3 or 4 years ago. It’s also just a figment of our imagination that milk is running $4 a gallon, that foreclosures are at an all-time high, and that another 2% of the people in the country have slipped into poverty – and that’s only if we use the government’s poverty rubric, which is worthless.

Don’t worry; be happy!!!!

Galactic Dust...er, Saul, yeah... Saul

The fact of the matter is that here in the Heartland we recogize that words like ‘economy’, ‘foreclosure’ ‘unemployed’ and ‘science’ are just buzz words the MSM uses to distract us from the truly important things, like the Ten Commandments in Public Spaces and requiring every woman to bring every snowflake baby to term!

See how evil the Democratic Congress is? They took a robust Republican economy and put it in peril! We need Romney!

Somebody help me. I am continuously arguing with wingnuts on the Amazon “Liberal Fascism” page. I know that it’s like shouting at a loudspeaker on an intellectual train ride to Hell. I just can’t…stop…myself….

Hey, guys? Isn’t it funny how recessions never happen under Democrats?

Hm. Wonder why? Could it be all that tax revenue that the government pumps back into the economy? You know, that creates booms like the 40s, the 60s, and the 90s, the three greatest economic upswings in history?

Could it be as simple as what Truman said: “If you want to live like a Republican, vote Democratic”?

You know who else is saying that the economy is headed for a recession? Commie liberal liars like the Federal Reserve, Goldman Sachs, Morgan Stanley, and Merrill Lynch. Lousy America-hating lefties.

If you marched one of these guys out of their caves, would they even recognize the writing on the wall?

I mean literally. The price for new houses is on the wall. In big letters, hoping someone will buy one.

Over the holiday, my mom was having a hard time believing that it would be easy to pay $5 a gallon for milk here in the city (for actual gallons), and that I regularly pay $2 a pound for apples.

Kudlow? Larry’s been screaming “Goldilocks!” at the top of his lungs for years. He’s the biggest cheerleader in existence for George W’s magic economy.

He underplayed soaring gold and oil. He underplayed the housing bubble and the credit crisis. He touted either the jobs number, depending upon which one looked better. He never met a tax cut he didn’t like and has never taken responsibility for the soaring deficits, still near 1/2 trillion dollars when you take the trust fund debt into account (and anybody who thinks older voters and people approaching retirement will let the gov’t back out of that promise is smoking something). He wants to privatize Soc Sec.

And not long ago, just as I and others started posting some of his older words in his comments section, he disabled all comments. A classic GOP coward who isn’t man enough to face his own words when his predictions start falling flat.

But Giuliani is a LIBERAL, remember? 9/11 aside, he’s not sufficiently harsh to the gays, the immigrants, etc., etc.

I for one am quite sure Rudy’s proposed multi-Trillion with a “T” tax cuts for corporations is just going to go over SUPER with the American electorate.

You’d think he could do some math. Maybe the only numbers he knows are 9 and 11.

I have a good job, am a “have” who lives in a palatial 1100 sq. ft. townhome, and I sweat losing both every day in a recession, or even without one, since I can be hired cheaper overseas no matter what.

And my mortgage balance is less than my home value!

Where the hell is Peril? I was told my marriage is there, too. fucking place takes everything.

Hey, Kudlow!

Things usually speed up when they’re going downhill, don’t they?

Just askin’.

“Thanks to the hysterical claims about the economy from people who want to see a Democrat win in 2008 a lot of home buyers are under the delusion that prices for homes will decline nationwide by up to 20% next year.”

My stockbroker, a member of that radical lefty organization, Merrill Lynch, tells me that house prices will drop 13%.

Ah, I see where our right wing author is hiding, where he is using weasel words. He qualifies his statement with “nationwide”. Well, of course, there will be places that do not lose value, so he can claim to have been technically correct. As long as house prices in X community do not fall, he is a visionary.

How lame. How stupid, sad and lame are those who whore for the Republicans. If you don’t think real estate prices are falling, invest and invest now! LOL.

Jerkstore . . .

Isn’t that Rudy’s line? “We’ll always have Peril. We didn’t have, we, we lost it until . . . . 9/11!!”

Anybody who has read Krugman even somewhat regularly over the last five years knows exactly what’s happening, where we are, and has a pretty good idea of what’s coming.

He was writing two years ago that after the housing bubble protected the economy from the worst effects of the tech bubble, there was no new “bubble” that could be artificially created and the economy was going to have to try to find a way to stand on its own, something it is entirely incapable of doing. With so much debt, debt service, entitlement payments, spiraling health care costs and a stupid trillion dollar military, this economy is utterly unsustainable without artificial supports.

It’s a self-fulfilling prophecy. As soon as it starts to truly tank, the foreign investors are going to back away. That will accellerate the decline and those holding US debt are going to have to start liquidating it or find it to be worthless. Of course, the more they sell off the less it will be worth, so once the process starts it by definition turns into a stampede.

Oh. But it’s utterly taboo to even have this conversation. All a politician is allowed to say is variations on “the economy is fundamentally strong” and “the economy is slowing, but my policies will restore it to greatness”.

And the people smile, nod, and turn on American Idol…

All that just to kick Mayor Trudy? Sure, he’s obnoxious and corrupt and vicious and freaky and mean and a total asshole that can’t get a birthday card from his kids, but why expend effort on the runt of the litter?

Great Grampa McCoy and Magic Lingerieman are the dawgs that need to be shortleashed if we’re to get the RaptureRottie to the top of the dogpile in time for the best November outcome.

We can’t leave these things to the Beltway Dems, yanno. That’s like asking an Irish Setter to do trig.

Isn’t it funny how recessions never happen under Democrats?

And isn’t it funny how the GOP has one tonic for all economic situations? Surplus? Tax cuts! Deficit? Tax cuts! Balanced budget? Tax cuts!

Wanna’ see what all those tax cuts came from? Just look at this chart showing how debt has been accumulated by different presidents.

“The GOP, saddling future generations with horrendous debt since 1980!”

But the stock market, and the GDP, and the performance of mutual funds… haven’t we been told that investors are reaping record gains?

How can both be true? It’s like there were, I dunno, two Americas or something… gosh, that just sounds silly. No one would support that…

Yes, definitely !! Or that “hamster of doom” video too !

Shalom, gentlemen.

If a Republican is president you bank on two things: Tax cuts for the rich and a fucked up country.

You could intercut the “I AM COMING FOR YOUUUUUUUU” squirrel with those grotesque screenshots of Malkin, Giuliani’s scowl, Bush’s “who, me?” face.

“I AM COMING FOR YOUUUUUUUUUUU”

In reality, all liberals can do is cry doom and gloom about teh economy, when it is really going awesome. Just pay attention, to Fox news, not to the NY Times, and you will see that there has never been a better time to work hard and invest in USA. Of course, liberals can’t do either, just subsist on the government dole.

But Giuliani is a LIBERAL, remember?

Well, true, he IS a fascist, so therefore he must be a liberal. Indeed, that is central to my point.

Sir Galahad: Look, let me go back in there and face the peril.
Sir Lancelot: No, it’s too perilous.
Sir Galahad: Look, it’s my duty as a knight to sample as much peril as I can.
Sir Lancelot: No, we’ve got to find the Holy Grail. Come on.
Sir Galahad: Oh, let me have just a little bit of peril?
Sir Lancelot: No. It’s unhealthy.
Sir Galahad: I bet you’re gay.
Sir Lancelot: Am not.

Why don’t these oh so smart wingnuts who think the housing downfall is manufactured by the media and the democrats go out and buy up these underpriced houses then? Surely once they succeed at exposing the eeevil liberal plot, the housing prices will soar back up to their rightful place in the sky, resulting in quite a healthy profit.

Oh yeah, thats right, they can’t even afford a new grill when the wind blows their old one over.

Giuliani’s ad is for Florida. After “an economy in peril,” the voice-over continues:

A country at war, a future uncertain. The media loves process. Talking heads love chatter. But Florida has a chance to turn down the noise and show the world that leadership is what really matters.

Yeah, ’cause if there’s one thing we’re really good at here in Florida, it’s turning down the political noise.

Yep. Every single analyst out there agrees that we’re heading into recession… even the optimistic permabulls are saying it.

Comrade Rutherford

I was a registered Liberal in NYC until they gave their support to Giuliani for his first election run. I switched the next day. Giuliani was very clear that he was going to rule NYC with an iron fist and crush Freedom like a rose under his stilleto boot heel.

His record in NYC as mayor left a record of authoritarian 4$$holism. He did things like sell community gardens (the land used to be rubble-strewn lots that the city ignored) to real estate developers but NOT the still rubble-strewn lots across the street. Basically he intentionally destroyed 20 years of volunteer work making the city beautiful and leaving the crack-smoking sites intact.

He ordered the police to arrest artists that showed their work on the streets and to destroy their artwork, too. Police were given a free hand to be as brutal as they wanted.

Giuliani also implemeted Stop and Frisk, basically Nazi-style ID checks for all non-white people in the city. “Let me see your papers, or I’ll arrest you”.

And there was that little thing about shooting a guy 40 times in the vestibule of his own home.

yes, yes, yes,

i want to hear “I’m coming for you” tagged onto a pammycakes video….

The fact is what liberals call a recession is really an opportunity to make new friends in line at EZ Pawn.

You know guys, Saul has a sort of point here: If everyone watched Fox news (and only FOX news)the economy would be doing great. (Any disparities with real state of economy and the one reported by Fox would be someone elses fault naturally. I think Islamofascists and gays wanting to get married would be high on this list of scapegoats.)

Why, I’m almost envious of Saul’s economical might, which he is no doubt investing at the moment at such safe bets as rising property values, strenghtening (US) dollar and falling oil price futures.

I’m sure that within a year he will be here in every thread in S/N bragging about how much money he made with soaring property values, strong (US)dollar and that cheap cheap oil. Or is that your plan Saul?

My plan is to Sell EURUSD after it’s take-out of 1.50 falters around 1.54 or 1.55. It’s better than any of Saul’s plans – and I’ll be taking his money.

It should work, unless it shoots for 1.60, then I’m fucked, but not as fucked as Saul..

Comrade Rutherford

Yeah, if we all watched Fox, then we, too, could live in a make-believe fantasy land – as long as we never look out the window, ’cause then the illusion would be shattered.

See, in Fox Land, gas and food prices haven’t skyrocketed, the GOP hasn’t destroyed the livelihood of millions of middle class Americans lives, Bush hasn’t intentioanlly destroyed ‘Brand America’ in the eyes of every other nation on earth, war is peace, ignorance is strength and freedom is slavery.

See, it’s *normal• for gas to go up 15 cents a day, to double in price every four years or so, it always has in the past, since Fox says so. No, don’t actually look at the historical record, just listen to Fox’s expurgated version of the world.

We’ve always been at war with Eastasia, we’ve never been at war with Eurasia. Doublethink is mandatory, thoughtcrime is death. Potemkin *is* a real town! Fox said so, it *must* be true!

mmm..hmmm.. yet why shouldn’t we just ask them to apologize for saying that global warming was a myth, or that the WMDs were real? i mean, nice try…again but can’t you put it in storage for another 25 years.. that shit is so oversold and out of fashion it should be “sub-prime”.. political lies.. sooo reagan/nixon
