Captain Bipartisan in the house!

We love that old time bipartisanship:

But with Senator Lincoln Chafee’s announcement Thursday that he would deny Republicans on the committee the last vote needed to send Mr. Bolton’s nomination to the full Senate, some administration officials privately acknowledge that Mr. Bolton’s chances of getting Senate confirmation are “nil,” one State Department official said. “We know it’s not going to happen.”

But Mr. Bolton is keen to stay at the helm of the American team at the United Nations, administration officials say, and White House officials, including the legal adviser, Harriet Miers, have been looking into whether Mr. Bush can somehow bypass the Senate and save Mr. Bolton. Administration officials said that Vice President Dick Cheney is backing the exploration of such a move.

Mr. Bolton “could be name ‘acting permanent representative’ or ‘deputy U.N. ambassador’ or something else that doesn’t require confirmation,” one senior administration official said, acknowledging that it might not be worth angering Democrats with such a maneuver. [Emphasis added]

Why don’t we just call Bolton the Moustache of Evil and let him spend more time with his family? And then we’ll somehow give him a swift kick in the nuts.

For once, the media is already on the case. They’ve already raised the question of whether renominating Bolton means Bush, golly gee, might not be sincere about this whole bipartisanship thing. If Bush goes forward with this, it’s going to signify to everyone that the partisan war is back on, except Bush no longer holds the cards.

Didn’t Bolton already have to be a recess appointee while the Repubs held congress?

Sure. That’s why they’re pushing it now, Some Guy, during the lame duck session.

I think you’re missing the most important part of this little excerpt — that Chenysy is behind this. Crikey, that is one crabby, pushy hard-headed son of bitch. Why do they have such a hard-on for Bolton?

yam, I was wondering that too…what’s the deal with Bolton the he HAS to be U.N. ambassador? Surely they can find some undercover nutjob to push through the lame-duck congress.

CW is that they need Bolton in place at the UN because he’s on board with the attack on Iran. His job is to provided “International Cover” for the attack, making it look like we’ve been completely reasonable and have exhausted every possible diplomatic solution and now, only reluctantly, we’re going to have to lauch the air campaign against the Iranian nuclear facilities. The fear is that a real foggy bottom type would not help them with the window dressing…

Yeah to all of the above, but also: what is Harriet Myers still doing sucking up my hard-earned tax dollars? “Looking into whether Mr. Bush can somehow bypass the Senate and save Mr. Bolton”? Save Mr. Bolton?! Not to mention bypass his own lame duck Senate while he still owns them? WTF?

Y’know, I’d love to see a comprehensive list of all the bush buddies, pals, fellow-travelers, water carriers, contributors, campaign workers and the women who love them all who hold politcally appointed positions in this government. In addition to the obvious ones like Harriet (Harriet? Who names their kid Harriet?), I bet theres a hundred others, occupying little government niches, collecting mid-six figures on the taxpayers and making no actual contribution…

mikey

Mikey, we can’t afford the paper for that list.

Some Guy and Deadly Shoe,
Bush can shove the ‘stash down our throats again with another recess appointment but then the appointee is in a nonpaid position. Not that that would stop some Rethug billionaire from stuffing money in the evil stash’s Swiss bank account.

Mikey, making no actual contribution would be a major leap forward from catastrophically fucking up.

As long as they’re making up new positions to bypass the congress why not just let W change his title to Maximum Leader for Life and we can bypass that whole term limit thing or future elections.

Slightly off topic, but where’s Gary?

Smiling Mortician

Gary made a halfhearted appearance or two a coupla threads down and then quietly slinked away. I think he’s lost his joie de vivre, poor fella.

Harriet was a much more popular name back in the early 20th century. I imagine Harriet Miers was named for an aunt or something. Actually, a lot of those names are coming back in style; my grandson goes to preschool with a 2-year-old named Vera.

Also off topic, but check this out. Juggs McShrugs has done the impossible; made Ward Churchill seem almost reasonable in comparison. (Which of course means I agree with everything he’s said, because he’s an important part of the left and not an obscure professor who said inflammatory crap for cheap self-promotion.)

Now I see why the loss of the preview button is so mourned. Hope I got that tag right.

You got it right, d-brad. When am I going to learn not to click through to Ass Shrug? I’ve developed such a cavernous wrinkle in my forehead as a result of trying to read the crap she posts. And last time I tried to actually watch/listen to her, my eyes bulged out and my ears bled.

I know, lets make some shit up!!

Wilson is rolling in hsi grave

Hahaha. What are they called, a web chart?, of connections within the Bush Administration would be priceless indeed. It’d be a big old glob.

That Juggs link is pretty telling, D. Brad. “We got some smart-ass punk wannabe student to rile-up a professor. Ha! Boy is HE immature! nyuk!”
It makes sense, though, that his response seems “bent out of shape” to Juggy. Maybe he should of had a few drinks, maybe let one of his kids type a few responses, then claim Fox News is liberal.

CW is that they need Bolton in place at the UN because he’s on board with the attack on Iran.

Personally, I think it’s even simpler than that. They just really, really hate to fuckin’ lose ANYTHING. Any rejection of an appointee is a challenge and they demand that Congress RESPECT THEIR AUTHORITAH!!
