I’d also have more sympathy if some of the same leftward offenders would stop blaming Israel for shit it didn’t even fucking do, and/or if what is now Jordan had kept its side of the 1947 accord and coughed up the land it was contractually obligated to provide for a Palestinian homeland. But, see, it’s too difficult to actually do nuance, especially since that’d require most of these dumbshits to actually know anything about history.

Frankly, I think most of the Arab world needs to just face the facts: Once your turf gets aggressively colonised by the British Empire, you ain’t never getting your land back the way it was. And if we’re going to start cancelling countries by fiat because they were created by the British Empire at the expense of indigenous inhabitants, a fuck of a lot of us need to start packing.

I’ve never heard a leftist either here or in Europe say anything as asinine as “Jews bad,” much as the GOP enjoys pinning antisemitism on us – the only movements I’m aware of who do that are the far right parties in Europe, who have a lot more in common with the American right than with the left on either side of the Atlantic. I’m going to say this once; being against Israeli politics or even Israeli statehood is not antisemitism, any more than being against Rhodesia or South Africa was anti-white racism.

I have heard antisemitism much more often from Palestinians, and when it takes the form of terrorism (or any kind of violence), all the liberals I’ve ever asked about it have denounced it quite strongly (myself included). In a passive form, it’s just the local Jeremiah Wright – yes it’s wrong, yes it’s racist, but yes, I can more than understand how they come by it. This is a people who’ve been systematically and deliberately destroyed over a period of sixty years by an oppressor that happened to be Jewish – not some Aryan strumpet who decided to vote for Hitler because she didn’t like the way their noses looked. I already told you about the leftward offenders, and see above for the rest of that as well. We know there’s plenty of blame to go around. We know that Arab governments and Palestinian parties both deserve a shit ton of it as well. What we’d like is some kind of acknowledgment that there are two sides to the fucking story and that the Israelis deserve a little bit of the blame also. The people who came over from Europe in the early twentieth century, demanded for their own a land that they’d never been to, then waged a twenty-year terrorist campaign against the British Empire and the local Arabs when they weren’t immediately given everything they wanted, deserve just as much of the blame as the Brits do.

You might have a point if colonization at the expense of indigenous inhabitants was some quaint thing of the past, water under the bridge we can all get over because it hasn’t happened for sixty years; it’s not. It’s an ongoing process which Israel still engages in every day with the tacit approval of its American backers. Why do you think Israel’s one of the only remaining countries in the world that hasn’t declared its borders?

Here in the twenty-first century, we also expect countries to behave a certain way regardless of how these countries came about. Colonization is not a legitimate policy in the modern world, and neither is segregation. Liberals during the Cold War didn’t want South Africa wiped off the map or its whites sent back to Holland/England, but they did want it to stop practicing apartheid in its domestic policy, and aggression against neighboring countries in its foreign one. The reason that finally happened in the eighties was that the Western embargo forced the regime to start negotiating in good faith – it hasn’t happened with Israel, and I don’t think it’s going to.
