Meanwhile, in opposite world
It’s so easy to win when winning is defined as “announcing that you’ve won:”
In short, the larger political battle over wiretaps is over, and the President has won the argument among the American people.
Should the Bush administration be required to get a warrant from a judge before monitoring phone and Internet communications between American citizens in the United States and suspected terrorists, or should the government be allowed to monitor such communications without getting a warrant?
Should be required to get a warrant, 50 percent
Should be allowed to monitor without a warrant, 48 percent
Aaaaah, the anonymous WSJ editorials! They’re terrific because they can write whatever wingnutty crap they want without ever taking the credit for it.
Also, it’s cute that “losing the argument with the American people” hasn’t stopped them from pimping Social Security privatization.
Who *are* these nitwits that manage to comprise 48% of us? Holy God, I hope that poll was freeped. Otherwise I have to start being contemptuous of a lot more of my fellow Americans than I thought.
Hmmm… That’s not what I’ve been hearing…
Dems are the favorite for the 2006 elections so far, and many seem to be making implicit or explicit promises to look into impeaching bush.
Might just be talk, but I think it’s high time that was seriously discussed in the media and the public.
Hell, this is the same approach after losing the popular vote in 2000.
fucking cough syrup…it should read “the same approach THEY TOOK after losing the popular vote…

There’s a reason the monkey said terror, terrorism or terrorist 90 times in his speech today.
Wait, 50%-48% say that they’d rather not be spied on without a warrent? Not only did our side win this, we’ve won with the largest mandate ever in political discourse! The American public has given us political capital…

The G. W. Bush man ROCKS. Democrats are not getting traction. America is not in line with the Democrat Party. Lib’s just do not get that somehow. Keep that Dean, Clinton and all the others fools ever before America’s eye. The more they are seen and heard the Republicans will be a shoe in for 2006- 2008. Lies and accusations are finally exposed.

and 48% percent don’t know how to spell shoo-in.
Thanks for breaking that suit, CCs. I love that article. GWB releases the barest evidence that an attack that the mayor of LA never was informed about was thwarted when police from an unnamed Asian nation arrested four unnamed men who wanted to attack a tower that Bush couldn’t even remember the name of. So, basically, people we can’t name were going to attack a tower with no political significance at an unnamed date but were caught by an unnamed nation. And all of this was released while the president is flounderring to justify being too lazy to get a permit that is almost never denied. That is harsh evidence that spying on Americans works!
If I had a dime for every right-winger who ever posted to a left-leaning website and told us what’s wrong with us, my grandma would have enough money to pay for her medication. I find it amusing that the most hateful people who spend the least time listening to the opinions of real (non-psycho, non-winger) people are the ones who claim the most understanding of them. Always accompanied by a semiliterate, naive-sounding (see above), sweeping prediction that the Democratic Party is heading for a big fall. Obviously, if you are blindly prejudiced against liberals you will think everything they have to say is stupid, especially if you don’t have the capacity for critical thinking. Your big mistake is in extrapolating your tiny, narrow worldview to the rest of America. It is to laugh.
This sounds a lot like Bush’s 51% ‘mandate’.
Another thing to keep in mind is that opinion polls do not overturn established law.
Postulate:
“61% of Americans feel it’s alright to key someone’s car if the driver cuts them off in traffic.”
Ergo, vandalism is legal?
48% think the president should be allowed to spy on Americans without a warrant, which is plenty disturbing, I’ll admit. But how many people think the president IS allowed to spy on Americans without a warrant? Since the question here isn’t whether there ought to be a law saying he can, but whether he’s bound by the law that says he can’t.
I hate when people poll on this issue and can’t be bothered to get the question right.
48% say that warrantly spying is OK? Hot damn! Toss the law!
Greater than 60% want abortion to be legal in every poll taken on the topic? They’re just brainwashed by the liberal media! God doesn’t want abortion legal, and that’s all that matters.
Got it.
Oh, and anonymous, you’re not supposed to fuck the cough syrup…
The more they are seen and heard the Republicans will be a shoe in for 2006- 2008
They’re going to use the shoe-ins to blow open the cockpit doors. Of the country!
Well, obviously, all regulations for our society should be based on opinion polling, as soon as the opinions match those of our president. If only we had some sort of system of rules that you are not allowed to violate regardless of your status or motivation! These, I don’t know, let’s call them “laws”, could be written down somewhere, and enforced and upheld by a neutral branch of the government that is not part of the executive branch. I know, that’s just crazy talk, isn’t it?
Lucy, I like the cut of your jib (whatever that means).
So, let me see if I have this straight:
1. The president has won the argument on the NSA spying.
2. Black is white.
3. War is peace.
4. Irony is dead.
All righty then – another round of Kool Aid for everyone! Yay!
Thanks, celticgirl, for liking my small, triangular headsail! I am one angry lady these days and sending my thoughts out there seems to help. I always enjoy your comments, too. Seems I’ve seen them in more than one place?
Q: Should the Bush administration be required to get permission before assraping the Constitution?
A: I don’t want to go to Guantanimo, I’ll say anything you want.
Lucy: I totally understand the anger thing. Moving to Scotland helped, but I still stay current on all the crap going on in the states. I mean, yikes! Just when you think they can’t sink any lower-surprise!
Yeah you probably have seen my comments other places, I get around a little to a few favorite haunts on the blogs. But I gotta say SN! is a favorite hangout. Best commentors around *Disclaimer: BLT, this does NOT mean you!* and some generally funny stuff to help keep us moonbats’ spirits uplifted!
Well, jesus. That’s alot of fucking people who don’t know the basics of history.
Don’t these people remember fucking Joseph Stalin? I mean, he did not restrict his practices to terrorists. He sent people to the gulag because they thought that learned traits couldn’t be genetically passed on to offspring.
The idea that those with nothing to hide have nothing to fear is just wrong, and a cursory examination of history will tell you that.
Incidentally, why would a fairly prestigious newspaper have a policy of only hiring idiots to write editorials? What’s the point of that policy?
