Hate to ruin all the fun, but Bush and his wife were very well received in Kyoto. The alliance has never been better. I’m not a Clinton hater, in fact there is much I like about the man, but he really messed things up in my part of the world by jettisoning long-standing allies such as Japan and appeasing tyranny. I’m always amazed at the rancor some Americans hold for Bush. I travel throughout Asia, and especially in China (not to mention, of course, Taiwan, Singapore, India and on and on) Bush is considered one of the best and most consequential Presidents ever. Of course you don’t hear that from the Chinese government, but as surely you know the government and the people are very different things in a tyranny. But I guess I should save my voice. This is a hard crowd. Very insulated, though believing themselves to be worldly.

Well that’s all fine and good, I have no problem believing Bush is well received in Japan, The japanese have been crazy about American society for years. Yes japan loves Bush, so? How many other countries have turned against the united states in the wake of it’s startling pre-emptive war. And it’s horrifying reaction to Katrina. What about the latin american response to his free trade meetings? There are so many tangible examples of worsening relations with countries all over the globe, that japan is sadly, one of the very few examples of a nation that still believes America stands for the greater good.
I shudder to think of the legacy Bush is leaving all future americans.
