Everything happens so much faster these days. I only wish oog and the other dinosaurs would catch up with the world and die a little quicker. Maybe they just need some help? A few pointers, perhaps.

Without Paul Weyrich’s guidance America is doomed to sink into a horrifying abyss of naughty all-night latex parties.

From the linked ‘Load snippet:

…the incoming Obama crew is promising infrastructure “investments” the likes of which we haven’t seen since the 1950s.

Aren’t the 50s the Most Wonderful Time In All of Eternity When Everything Was Perfect? Or was it just the McCarthy part and how married couples slept in separate little beds? (Sure that was only on TV, but the TV 50s is the real one, to the rightard).

I’m just so broken up.

Not.

Unfortunately I’m sure he’ll have a Foundation established, so the legacy of his “wisdom” will continue on even though he’s having a talk with the Diety herself, who’s VERY unhappy with him.

Yes, it’s not nice to speak ill of the dead, but…

Fuck you, Paul Weyrich. I piss on your grave.

From Wikipedia:

In 1973, with the financial backing of Coors, Weyrich and Ed Feulner founded the Heritage Foundation as a think tank to counterbalance prevailing sentiment on taxation and regulation, which they considered to be anti-business. While the organization was at first only minimally influential, it has grown into one of the world’s largest and most respected public policy research institutes and has been hugely influential in advancing conservative policies.

The following year, again with support from Coors, Weyrich founded the Committee for the Survival of a Free Congress (CSFC), an organization that trained and mobilized conservative activists, recruited conservative candidates, and raised funds for conservative causes.

Under Weyrich, the CSFC proved highly innovative. It was among the first grassroots organizations to raise funds extensively through direct mail campaigns. It also was one of the first organizations to tap into evangelical Christian churches as places to recruit and cultivate activists and support for social conservative causes. Indeed, they proved such a wellspring that, in 1977, Weyrich co-founded Christian Voice with Robert Grant and two years later founded with Jerry Falwell the Moral Majority. Weyrich coined the phrase “Moral Majority.”[4]

Over the next two decades, Weyrich founded, co-founded, or held prominent roles in a number of other notable conservative organizations. Among them, he was founder of the American Legislative Exchange Council, an organization of state legislators; a co-founder of the Council for National Policy, a strategy-formulating organization for social conservatives; co-publisher of the magazine Conservative Digest; and national chairman of Coalitions for America, an association of conservative activist organizations. The CSFC, reorganized into the Free Congress Foundation (FCF), also remained active.

Weyrich helped create the movements that have been fucking over America for the past 35 years. He made assholes like Fallwell, Pat Robertson, James Dobson and, yes Rick Warren possible. May he rest in dogshit.

Well, at least he lived long enough to see Obama get elected. Heh.

I’m waiting for the Balloon Juice post about this in which John Cole tells everyone to be respectful and then they don’t and then he gets all pissed. Clockwork, I tells you.

More Weyrich goodness:

And. of course, who could forget this famous diatribe from 1999:

But it is impossible to ignore the fact that the United States is becoming an ideological state. The ideology of Political Correctness, which openly calls for the destruction of our traditional culture, has so gripped the body politic, has so gripped our institutions, that it is even affecting the Church. It has completely taken over the academic community. It is now pervasive in the entertainment industry, and it threatens to control literally every aspect of our lives.

Those who came up with Political Correctness, which we more accurately call “Cultural Marxism,” did so in a deliberate fashion. I’m not going to go into the whole history of the Frankfurt School and Herbert Marcuse and the other people responsible for this. Suffice it to say that the United States is very close to becoming a state totally dominated by an alien ideology, an ideology bitterly hostile to Western culture. Even now, for the first time in their lives, people have to be afraid of what they say. This has never been true in the history of our country. Yet today, if you say the “wrong thing,” you suddenly have legal problems, political problems, you might even lose your job or be expelled from college. Certain topics are forbidden. You can,t approach the truth about a lot of different subjects. If you do, you are immediately branded as “racist”, “sexist”, “homophobic”, “insensitive”, or “judgmental.”

Cultural Marxism is succeeding in its war against our culture. The question becomes, if we are unable to escape the cultural disintegration that is gripping society, then what hope can we have? Let me be perfectly frank about it. If there really were a moral majority out there, Bill Clinton would have been driven out of office months ago. It is not only the lack of political will on the part of Republicans, although that is part of the problem. More powerful is the fact that what Americans would have found absolutely intolerable only a few years ago, a majority now not only tolerates but celebrates. Americans have adopted, in large measure, the MTV culture that we so valiantly opposed just a few years ago, and it has permeated the thinking of all but those who have separated themselves from the contemporary culture.

If in Washington State and Colorado, after we have spent years talking about partial birth abortion, we can,t by referendum pass a ban on it, we have to face some unpleasant facts. I no longer believe that there is a moral majority. I do not believe that a majority of Americans actually shares our values.

Is this the part where I’m supposed to endlessly praise a repugnant man, and coservatism as a whole because the Malkin thing might (read: “is guaranteed to, no matter what”) fly into a poutrage of breathless victimhood?

Fuck. Him.

Sissy. A real conservative would have spurned the innovation of death.

[Preview is calling gravatar.com at every keystroke, which might be a problem…]

Well, I for one am sorry he’s dead; now he won’t have to witness the non-stop homoislamofascist orgy/abortothon of resplendently, nay, lasciviously victorious Cultural Marxism collectively pooping on everything he holds sacred.

test test hmm.

It’s calling Gravitar how?

…he won’t have to witness the non-stop homoislamofascist orgy/abortothon of resplendently, nay, lasciviously victorious Cultural Marxism collectively pooping on everything he holds sacred.

That is a pity. I, on the other hand, have been stockpiling bran cereal in anticipation.

A dead douchebag is still a douchebag. In addition to being dead.

It’s calling Gravitar how?

I’m using Firefox and the little icon beside my name flashes as I type. Below in the status bar I get a “Waiting for http://www.gravatar.com” which I assume is hoping for info from gravatar to fill the generic icon to the left of my name.

I guess if it’s my browser making these requests it’s no addition to your server’s load.

It takes a special kind of mind to leap from “Oh noes, they be trying to squeeze culture into an ideological straitjacket!” to “the MTV culture that we so valiantly opposed just a few years ago” within two paragraphs.
It’s one of these “We have to divide culture into Correct and Incorrect kinds, because otherwise the other side will do it to us first!!” things.

test test test

Nope, not seeing it on this end. Could it be a cache issue?

I’m using IE and getting “downloading picture http://www.gravatar.com/avatar” and so forth in my status bar as I type as well, Gavin. The icon flashes appears sort of randomly, it seems to me. I have no idea what this might mean, but since RB brought it up and he’s using firefox I thought you might like to know it’s happening with IE too.

Could it be a cache issue?
I am so going to use that in the future.
“What, someone came home last night after a wee visit from the Rat-arse Fairy and trashed the kitchen trying to deep-fry cornflakes? It must have been a cache issue.”

And the angels sang hallelujah as Satan prepared the way.

It truly is a pity that Weyrich won’t be around to experience the economic funhouse his ideology produced for us, that we’re going to be living with for at least the next several years (if we’re lucky). On the other hand, maybe we just have to be content with knowing that Weyrich’s kids and grandkids will probably get butthurt along with the rest of us, and will live the rest of their lives knowing what a complete and utter jackass their father/grandfather was.

I dunno about “cache” issues, but I’ve got serious “cash” issues right now. As in, not having any.

For this, I blame Paul Weyrich and his ilk. Where’s the line form to piss on his grave?

More powerful is the fact that what Americans would have found absolutely intolerable only a few years ago, a majority now not only tolerates but celebrates.

Well, he certainly got that right. He’s talking about torture, isn’t he?

Ohhhh. He’s NOT talking about torture?

Testing one two three ….

Ahhh. Opera seems to handle it correctly. Function updateLivePreview() is the culprit. I don’t feel like screwing around with a js console trace just now so … whatever. RB is correct about it not being a load on the S,N! server. Gravatar, on the other hand, is getting killed. WordPress does like fucking things up, doanit?

I do not believe that a majority of Americans actually shares our values.

Then you should have left.

Being one of those complete morons who’d stick a knife into an operating toaster I’d just erase all the lines that say “gravatar” in the script. They seem distinct and disposable. So follow my advice and ruin everything for the sake of the removal of a wholly minor irritant on my end.

Hey, I’ve just added Gravatar to Adblock and everything’s swell and my browser is looking at SN! full in the chest eyes and not consorting with other sites.

I no longer believe that there is a moral majority. I do not believe that a majority of Americans actually shares our values.

I say we give them Utah, Texas, and Alaska and let them run them however they want. That way we get those states back in a couple of years after they starve to death trying to grow wheat through the power of prayer.

Those of you with Adblock can simply block the Javascript link above, and the Gravatar issues will go away.

Being one of those complete morons who’d stick a knife into an operating toaster

Don’t sweat it – it’s the only way I know of to get a fork unstuck from those things.

“[Preview is calling gravatar.com at every keystroke, which might be a problem…]” Not if Mathra gets to gravatar first!

That damned fool Weyrich would still be alive today if he hadn’t stolen and drunk the vault copy of my precious bodily fluids…

Being one of those complete morons who’d stick a knife into an operating toaster
I had no idea that surgeons in the US had been reduced to operating under such third-world conditions. Here in NZ we have these things called ‘autoclaves’.

Speaking of ‘autoclave’ — Mountain Goats concert last night. That is all.

I say we give them Utah, Texas, and Alaska and let them run them however they want.

Thanks, no. The idea of boycotting Utah for the Mormon church’s support of prop H8 was bad enough.

Wow, a whole nother winger I never got to gawk at…..

By Gravatar’s Hammer, you shall be avenged!

Good Night, Sweet Prince: A Memorial Tribute

Hail to thee, Weyrich, farewell!
How fab that you haven’t been well.

You damned every fag,
Gay cocks made you gag.

Your hemorrhoids are toasting in Hell!.

K-Lo will put Weyrich back on the record,
as soon as she fires up her new Ouiji board.
Only to find news bound to alarm her –
The ice in Paul’s veins is now quite a bit warmer.
The price for fulfilling the neocon itch:
An eternal career – as Satan’s New Bitch.
The end of the seance leaves her ashen & vexed:
“The horny old goat says he wants your ass next!”

Weyrich goes back farther than 73 and Heritage when it comes to the almost single-handed creation of the conservative evangelical/Big Business alliance. This is from my book “The Price of Right”:

A co-founder of the Heritage Foundation in 1973, his vision for a Christian conservative right was born nine years earlier as a result of the Supreme Court decision which removed prayer from public schools. At the time, the Republican party was not interested in embracing religious conservatives. They were first and foremost business-oriented and had no interest in challenging the separation of church and state. And evangelicals and fundamentalists were equally loath to get involved with politics, which they considered ‘worldly’ and sinful. They were still smarting from the ‘Scopes Monkey Trial’. Although William Jennings Bryan prevailed against celebrity trial lawyer Clarence Darrow, and obtained a conviction against John Scopes for teaching evolution in school, the evangelical community took a pounding in the press, and was labeled as ignorant and backward. In response, they retreated from the public sphere, and developed their own communities apart from the mainstream culture. Weyrich was trying to convince two groups who wanted nothing to do with one another that they had common interests. He became active and successful in conservative endeavors in Washington, but could not get evangelicals on board until 1978, when the IRS threatened to revoke tax-exempt status for private schools that were not sufficiently integrated. This was the point, for evangelicals, where suddenly the Republicans’ idea that ‘big government was the enemy’ came home. Isolation no longer kept them safe from the secular world, and the Republicans could help them. Weyrich convinced a Baptist minister, Robert Billings, to organize a Christian protest against the IRS, called Christian School Action. Also involved were Pat Robertson, James Dobson, and Jerry Falwell, who contributed his mailing list to the cause. Christian School Action was successful in getting the desegregation plan dropped.

If you want to point the finger at one person who is responsible for this unholy alliance, which has had such horrific consequences for our country, Weyrich would be that guy. If only he had lived to personally experience the poverty, robbery and oppression that has settled upon so many of us as a result of his little hissy-fit. I can only hope it’s being taken of in whatever afterlife he may be floating around in.

Paul Weyrich: Founder of the Modern Extreme Christian Right:
His Shocking Background and Terrorist Connections
By J.B. Weintraub

While none of us gloats over someone dying, the death on December 18 of extreme right-wing powerhouse, Paul Weyrich, does bring a sigh of relief. Weyrich demonized Gay/Lesbian/Bisexual people and was the brains behind most of the anti-choice legislation passed in the last three decades. With his death, our world just got a little more decent and tolerant.Weyrich is the man most credited with creating the conservative backlash that defeated Jimmy Carter and made Reagan president. He started the conservative Heritage Foundation and then the even more extremist right-wing Free Congress Foundation, along with several other ultra-conservative organizations.

At a 1979 gathering of right-wing religious leaders, Weyrich coined the phrase “Moral Majority” and the name stuck. At this same meeting, he recruited Rev. Jerry Falwell to lead an organization of the same name. Over the next decade, the group energized a conservative religious movement as a political force. By the early eighties, Weyrich was often called the “most influential man in America ”

A deacon in the ultra-conservative Melkite Greek Catholic Church, based in the Middle East, Paul Weyrich openly fused his religion and his politics, pushing to turn the United States into a Christian theocracy inspired by the long-dead Byzantine Empire. In the little Melkite Catholic sect, a deacon is an important clergyman who is also called “Father” by their followers. Needless to say, only males can achieve this position. Because of Weyrich, and the religious zealots that he led, our nation has just endured eight years of Republican “leadership” and over two decades of conservative domination. This, in turn, has given us a hundred year recession, a needless war, a planet less inhabitable, and a country hated by much of the world. If the were a Hell, it would be reserved for people like Mr. Weyrich.

Sadly, the death of Weyrich will not stop the extremists of the Christian Right. Free Congress Foundation also supports anti-Muslim bigots like author Robert Spencer, also a Melkite clergyman. Spencer is the author of numerous hate-filled books against Islam and Muslims, runs a website called “Jihad Watch” advocating total war against Muslims. The Muslim-American civil rights organization, the Council on American-Islamic Relations, considers Robert Spencer one of the nation’s most dangerous Islamophobes. Spencer, when he’s not writing hate against Muslims, gives “religious retreats” all over the United States . It is rumored that Robert Spencer may succeed Weyrich as head of the Free Congress Foundation.

This would not be surprising. Back in the 1970s and 1980s, Free Congress was the major US supporter for the Christian-terrorist South Lebanese Army. The SLA was formed by renegade Major Saad Haddad, a half-Lebanese/half-Palestinian Christian who took over southern Lebanon and established a Melkite dominated Christian mini-state in the Israeli occupied zone. At the time Lebanon was in a civil war between the Muslim majority and a Lebanese government dominated by Maronites, another obscure Middle Eastern Catholic sect. Haddad and his followers thought the fascist Maronites under Bashir Gemayel were not right-wing enough and sought complete union with Israel where many of his fellow Melkites live. Like Paul Weyrich and Robert Spencer, Major Saad Haddad was also a Melkite deacon. See a pattern here?

In 1982, Weyrich and far-right TV preacher Pat Robertson even helped Saad Haddad set up a Christian radio station to broadcast right-wing Christian propaganda throughout the Middle East . The same year, Haddad’s troops were involved in the massacres of Sabra and Chatila where several hundred Palestinian Muslims were killed. Haddad died in 1984, but his Christian mini-state continued under the leadership of General Antoine Lahad until the Israeli government of Labor Party Prime-Minister Ehud Barak withdrew from Lebanon in May 2000. Barak was viscously criticized in Israel by the settler movement and the Israeli far-right parties on the grounds that his decision to withdraw without consulting his SLA allies led to the rapidity and confusion of its collapse.

Weyrich, who was in Israel at the time, must have been pleased when the right-wing Likud party and the ultra-Orthodox Jewish religious parties forced the Knesset to grant Israeli citizenship to these Christians moving into Israel from the collapsed Christian mini-state. This greatly increased the Melkite population in the Galilee as well as increasing a population loyal to the Israeli right. Last year, Saad Haddad’s granddaughter became one of the top ranking medical officers in the Israeli Defense Force. She has become symbolic of the Israeli far-right, which plays up to the Christians while denying millions of Palestinian Muslims the right of return.

Sadly, Weyrich’s unsavory influence also extended to Eastern Europe . He defended Serbia ‘s genocide against Kosovar Muslims and has been a loud supporter of Vladimir Putin’s moves to turn Russia into an officially Christian country. He even wrote that the US should emulate Russia and openly supported Putin’s aggression against the tiny secular democratic nation of Georgia .

Clearly the theocratic scourge of the Christian right is not limited to screwing just the United States . Their disgusting goals are global.

Sadlyno.com — also known as “the unbearable smugness of being.”

I oppose the Religious Right, but that doesn’t obligate me to support mindless cheerleading for “people of color” (i.e., nonwhites recruitable to the hard Left) to redefine American identity in an authoritarian way. A plague on the houses of multiculturalist egalitarianism and theocracy alike.

Why don’t readers of this site try libertarianism?

Okay, we’ll get on that.

I tried it: it was fairly tasty but hard to get out of season, as it doesn’t ship all that well.
