Now at the Top of my Birthday Wishlist
Anyone who loves me should consider buying me a copy of this:

Description:
Girls, these aren’t your father’s comics. Meet Serenity–She’s a teen with a ‘tude, and she’s about to take the inspirational market by storm.
Teens worldwide love “manga” comics–”now you can give them this popular style with great Christian content! Meet Serenity, a lonely teen from a broken family who just wants to be accepted–”but who tends to lash out at others with anger and obnoxious sarcasm. At her new school, the Christian prayer group takes Serenity on as a “project,” showing her friendship and love… but will even that be enough to crack her hard shell?
Hee hee. I’d take Serenity on as my “project” as well. She’s one hotttt anime Christian babe. Bow-chicka.
Here’s the plot description of the second issue:
The lonely teen with the blue hair is slowly warming up to the Christian kids who’ve made her their “project…” but when Serenity wrecks Kimberly’s car and refuses to take responsibility, the prayer club decides some “tough love” is in order.
Oooooh, I hopes it involves spanking, yes I do…
…
Hey, stop looking at me like that. I swear I’m not that guy who walks around in the park wearing nothing but a trenchcoat.
At least, I’m not anymore. That was a long time ago.
OK, that was two weeks ago.
Wankers.

I’m trying to figure out her clothes (not to mention her face — something Cubist going on there, apparently). The top is cute but — the right arm? What is that thing? An opera glove with the fingers cut off? And a blue knee-length skirt and white socks. Did the Christian kids dress her?

Right there wit’cha, Brad. I’m gonna go with….HOT. And know what? Those dorky “christian kids” don’t have a chance with here. I’m gonna meet her out on the soccer field and share a doob with her, then we’ll get on my scoot and roll out to the beach with a couple sixes, a blanket, boom box and a couple o’condoms. Oh yeah, the christian kids ain’t got nothin’ close to that…

I’ve actually seen the inside of that manga, and the art gives your average loser’s webcomic a run for its money in suck. Let’s just say that someone needs to be reminded that the Gradient Fill button on Photoshop is not a replacement for shading, and that backgrounds exist.
Also, there is very much already porn of this series on the internet. I’ve seen it.

Brad, I love you as much as I love, erm, lunacy, but I’m sorry, I can’t buy this for you. It only encourages them.
At my count, Born Again Christianity’s attempts to use pop culture to “reach” youth include the following travesties:
Christian Rock
Christian Rap
Christian Pop
Christain Wrestling
and now Christian Manga???
Sheesh. I’m guessing there didn’t implement the standard Miko-powered character and the perverted old man. Although I’m sure there’s gonna be a stepford issue where all of Serenity’s friends urge her to reclaim her virginity.

Here’s a preview of issue #1, where in 7 short pages we learn that divorce should be disallowed because it messes children up, and that New Age beliefs are “Christian ideals diluted of moral authority”. I recommend it for Serenity’s mum’s rainbow-coloured smock. The pattern shifts from frame to frame in a most trippy way. No wonder the girl’s so messed up.

elendil, that link is awesome. Page 4 really spoke to me, too - Serenity is, like, so totally fucked-up by her parent’s divorce that nobody even HAS to diss her (SNAP!). Let’s see your boring fetish anime morally bitch-slap a broken street waif like that!

“The top is cute but — the right arm? What is that thing? An opera glove with the fingers cut off? And a blue knee-length skirt and white socks. Did the Christian kids dress her?”
I think it’s kind of a retro Blue Monday period piece kind of thing. Serenity even kind of looks like the girl from Blue Monday
“and that New Age beliefs are ‘Christian ideals diluted of moral authority’”
Um, no. They’re pagan ideals diluted of substance. Unless the Ancient Egyptians and Mayans ripped off some Jewish guy when they invented the pyramids. Also, lots of babble about aliens.
Oh, hey, Elendil gave us a preview, I think I’ll just take a look inside and JESUS CHRIST MY EYES! That is the BIGGEST difference between cover and interior art quality I have ever seen. Seriously, somebody should sue them for false advertising. I mean, you buy what looks like a competant Amerimanga and you open it up and it looks like the illustrations from an airplane safety card. Pastor Calvin especially looks like he’s going to pull down his mask and place over his face before helping any other passengers who may need assistance.
And, Vishnu’s blood, is that an endorsement from Stan “The Man” Lee? Jesus, I hope he was just talking about the script, because the art is just inexcusable.
Frankly, the script’s not much better. I keep hoping a Christian will write a nice Christian story about helping people, but there’s an unrepentant atheist who’s still a nice guy and a good Hindu family. But all I get is prettied up Chick tracts. Bleagh, Bleagh I say!
Here’s a question: Why would fundamentalist Christians adopt the art style of the world’s most successful heathen nations?
And who does the competant covers? You’re lying to the children! That’s not Christian!
Okay, what else… It warms my cockles that somebody made pron out of this. It now ties with this as my favorite bafflingly innapropriate internet re-imagining of an otherwie innocent product.
World O Crap also did a fine article about another Christian Manga.
tigrismus said,

Dear God, that someone who failed both perspective and anatomy classes could still get paid for those illustrations causes me to lose all hope for the future of art.

brad, is this snark? cuz if not, i happen to know (i am not sh*tting you) one of the producer/owners of realbuzz.
i was taken aback when he handed me rant n’ rave as a freebie example of what he’s been doing lately (he should have been trying to get some backing for my screenplay which he’s optioned…definitely not christian themed) to pay the rent. i was puzzled because the guy is jewish. but you gots to pay the rent however you can.
bad news for you, i tossed my copy. sorry. so not into christian themed magna. now, if you said lolicon, that’s another story…
